Seiðr

Seidr is a (Northern) European ancestral tradition whose roots go far beyond the Viking Age and can be traced back to the matriarchal cultures and fertility rites of indigenous peoples. Depending on its form, Seidr combines aspects of animism, shamanism, folk medicine, priestesshood and witchcraft, as well as initiation and mystery paths.

A personal Seidr practice weaves an indestructible bond between us and the divine. It teaches us how to use the primal forces of life in a targeted manner to bring about change in our life circumstances and to work for the highest good of all.

Seidr traditionally involves working with song, staff, oracle seat and the spirit world (often associated with runes and galdr). It is practised alone or in community. Key elements include utiseta (vision quests), mediumship (oracular practices and divination), ceremonies (land and group healing) and the interplay of cosmic forces and the cycles of nature (annual rituals, offerings, etc.).

A Seidr ceremony on the Oracle Seat feels to me like standing in a swelling river of cosmic energy, becoming one with the web of life. Carried by the songs of the people in front of me, I surrender to their power and let it carry me between worlds. My being gathers all the energy that is given to me there – the wisdom of the earth, the clarity of the stars, the power of the storm… I feel it rising higher and higher until, with all my strength and deepest devotion, I let it permeate the worlds. To bring healing, to transform for the greater good, and to change the fabric of life forever.

The Way of the Goddess

In Katharina’s personal practice, the elements of Seidr are inextricably interwoven with the Way of the Goddess. Similar to the essence of ‘Shakti,’ there is also an expression of primal feminine energy in Germanic-Celtic cultures. To experience this is the path of the Goddess and the wise women who serve her and know how to use her primal power: the Veledas of the Germanic tribes (Venus of Willendorf), the priestesses of Avalon, the oracle traditions of the Mediterranean region (Pythia of Delphi), and so on…

This is the path that Katharina has been following since her youth and into which she was initiated in Ireland, the UK and Germany.
